A Man after God’s Heart!
“After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: ’I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.” (Acts 13:22)
What made David a man after God’s own heart?
COMMITMENT - David started off as a nonentity amongst his brothers. He was a humble shepherd boy taking care of sheep. He risked his life as he fought the lion and the bear to defend those sheep. Again David risked his life for the Israelite nation when all others had failed and trembled. He was a man committed to his responsibilities. Do you run when it is time for you to stand up and take responsibility for your wife and children? Do you step back when it comes to taking responsibility for the spiritual building up of your family? Only when you are faithful with the little will the Lord give you greater responsibilities.
CALLED - David was called and chosen by God. Even though he was considered hopeless by his own family and rejected, God picked him and he responded. Are you discouraged when you are rejected and laughed at by men? Like David you must remember that it is God who has chosen you and He will establish you in the calling He has given to you.
COURAGE - David was a man of courage. He did not run when he was faced with opposition but willingly faced the challenge. He wanted to bring glory to God by defeating the enemy. He knew that the greater one lived inside of Him and was on His side. God honored his courage and faith and delivered the enemy into his hand. Do you exercise your faith in God when you face the enemy? The Lord will honour your courage and zeal and grant you the victory.
CHASED - David had to face suffering and danger in spite of doing great exploits for his nation. Instead of being honored by the king, he was hounded and had to flee for his life. Do you murmur against God when you face trials because of the attacks of the enemy against the call of God upon your life? You must hold on to God until He delivers you from all your afflictions, which He promises to do!
CONSCIENCE - Have you got a tender conscience? David passed up the opportunity to kill Saul and refused to touch God’s anointed. Are you careful not to touch and harm God’s anointed by our words or actions? You must allow God to deal with His anointed when they go astray.
CORONATION - David experienced the fulfillment of the promise of God in his life which he received when he was anointed by Samuel. Even though there is a lengthy period between the promise and the fulfillment, you must also be patient until you experience the fulfillment of God’s promise to you. You must be prepared to go through the process that He leads you through until you reach our destiny.
CONTRITION - David had a contrite and repentant heart when he sinned against God. You must learn from David to admit your sins before God in order to obtain His grace and mercy in your life. It is only when you do so that you life will be a channel of blessing to others.
