Are You Bearing Fruit?
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit.” (John 15:5)
• We must be about the ‘Father’s Business’
• How much of your life is spent on unproductive matters?
• Are you a fruit bearing believer?
Are you satisfied with the fruit that you are bringing forth in your life? What you are currently reaping is what you have previously sown in your life. If you and God are not happy with what you are harvesting then you need to change what you are sowing.
Jesus told His disciples that the only way they could be fruitful in their lives was to be connected to the Vine. “Anyone who parts from me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. But if you stay joined to me and my words remain in you, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted! My true disciples produce much fruit. This brings glory to my Father ” (John 15:6-8). Jesus showed them how, like Himself, they had to be dependent on God. (John 15:19) “By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.” (John 5:30)
As a believer you bring forth godly fruit by being connected to Jesus Christ, by being dependent on God and by doing His will. It may not sound attractive compared to all the other things we can be engaged in but that is the only way we will bear fruit that God approves of.
Jesus spoke about differing degrees of fruit producing: fruit, more fruit and much fruit. Even when you are producing fruit, the Bible teaches that God will prune you to make you more productive. When a bush, plant or tree is being pruned, it is to take away the dead bits and to give it the opportunity for new growth and more productivity. Although we are creatures of habit and resist change, God does move us towards change. Sometimes we have to die to our current state, situation and opportunities to enable God to make us more effective and productive for His kingdom agenda.
The Bible tells us that God is glorified in your life through your fruit bearing. How does this happen? The fruit of the Spirit in your life – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness faithfulness, gentleness and self control – draws people to the Christ like nature in you. The fruit of souls that are brought to Christ through your life brings God glory and expands His eternal kingdom. The fruit of answered prayer that comes out of your relationship with God brings Him glory as you testify and make known His wonderful deeds.
Make it your decision to abide in Him so that you will be effective, productive and bring glory to God through Your fruit bearing.
Prayer Points:
• Heavenly Father, it is my desire to be about Your business.
• Help me to be a fruit bearing believer who brings You glory through my life.
• Where I am unproductive, help me to seek Your plans and will for productivity that I may begin to bear fruit for Your eternal kingdom.
In Jesus’ Name
Amen
