The clue to your mission

"In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was brought for him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had not been sad in his presence before, so the king asked me, "Why does your face look so sad when you are not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart."

I was very much afraid, but I said to the king, "May the king live forever! Why should my face not look sad when the city where my ancestors are buried lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?"The king said to me, "What is it you want?"Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered the king, "If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it."" (Nehemiah 2:1-5 NIV

  • Compassion is a signpost.
  • Where you hurt the most is a clue to what you may heal the best.

Have you ever wondered why others were not angry about situations that infuriated you? Of course you have. This is a clue to your mission or assignment. Moses is an example. He hated slavery and rose up to defend an Israelite. Although his timing was off initially, his mission was to be a deliverer.Author and speaker Mike Murdock says:

  1. You cannot correct what you are unwilling to confront.
  2. What you permit will always continue
  3. Behaviour permitted is behaviour perpetuated.

You cannot change something unless you have a God-given hatred for it, whether it is ignorance, sickness, injustice, child abuse, oppression, racial prejudice, poverty, divorce or abortion. What do you hate passionately? God has given you an anointing, a mantle, a calling;  to rise up, to challenge, correct and conquer the seeds of rebellion that are growing all around us.

What you cry about is a clue to something you were created and ordained by God to heal. What grieves you? Financial bankruptcy and debt, broken marriages and dysfunctional homes, mentally, emotionally and verbally abused wives, abused children, mental illness, rejected people, ignorance, poverty, disease, pornography, homosexuality, abortion? Caring qualifies you to be an instrument of healing. God has anointed you to change, conquer and heal. Nehemiah’s heart was broken about the walls of Jerusalem being broken down. He could not sleep at night. He was stirred with everything within him to write letters, contact officials, and even change his personal life as a cupbearer in the King’s palace to rebuild the walls. Just like Nehemiah, Moses was prepared to trade his position as Pharaoh’s son to fulfil his mission. What are you prepared to do?

What grieves you? What saddens you? What moves you to tears? What makes you angry? Pay attention to it today. Tears and Godly anger are clues to the nature of your mission or assignment.

Prayer Points:

  • Father, help me see my mission and assignment.

  • May I be aware of the things that move me to Godly anger and compassion?

  • May I start responding to these Godly emotions and begin to make a difference to my generation.

In Jesus’ Name.

Amen
