The Rock Christian Centre has just launched a brand new initiative called 'Helping Hands' aimed at meeting the emergency needs among the neediest people in our community. The base ministry will be the provision of 'food parcels' (food/toiletries etc.). We are hoping in the future to expand the ministry to include basic DIY / gardening assistance and possibly advice & debt counselling etc (dependant on training). The main focus of the Helping Hands project will initially be the local community of Burngreave / Pitsmoor / Grimesthorpe and the North East estates. We are starting off on a small scale but hope to be able to provide several emergency food parcels weekly/monthly. We are aiming to build up good working relationships with local organisations working in the area to ensure we identify and meet the needs of people most needing our help. Working together we can give the complete helping hand service. The members of the Rock Christian Centre are getting behind the project and bringing in non-perishable food items each week. These are now in a store room being made ready to be parcelled up for distribution. The parcels will be tailored for families when it is possible, by adding food for young children where required. The aim is to supply 3-4 parcels, this will ensure the recipients have a 'helping hand' and that they do not become dependant on our help. The first parcel would also contain basic toiletries. Click here to see a 'Needs List', which gives detaials of items we are short of and particularly need at this time. For more information speak to Mark Rotherham in church or e-mail him here. |
