- Jennifer & Jim – Lost in the wilderness. In December 1992 Jim and Jennifer Stolpa and their baby son, Clayton, became lost in the Nevada snow covered wilderness for 9 days. Jim walked 50 miles in the snow before they were rescued. Their story can be seen here. Their lostness reminds us of how it feels to be away from God. Matthew contains 3 stories – the lost sheep, a woman with a lamp who searches everywhere for a lost coin and the prodigal son. These all describe God who wants to find us more than we want to be found.
- Job – Facing deeper struggles. Job questions God about pain and suffering. In Job 19 he says God has blocked his way. In Job 24 he looks at the darkness without in society. In Job 12 he sees the darkness within himself. Job’s darkness was not of his own making. Why did God allow it? Do you think your life is ‘crap’? Did you mess up? Have your circumstances overtaken you? In Job 3 Job wishes he had never been born. Are you in a low and dark place? There is no situation where God is not present. There is nothing God cannot redeem.
- Jesus – Who brings light and hope. Your life is not ‘crap’, neither are you. It is not so dark that Jesus, the Light of the World, cannot illuminate it.
