Confident, Called & Commissioned
2 Corinthians 1:18-22
The church at Corinth was a bit of a nightmare. Paul describes his visit as painful. Paul writes to encourage them here.
Paul says you are called for a purpose. God has put His Spirit in your hearts. We are the confident, called, commissioned people of God.
Sometimes our confidence is misplaced. When the difficult bends of life come things don’t always go well if our confidence is placed in our own abilities. Our confidence should be in God.
God is faithful (v 18). The ancient gods were temperamental. You did not know where you stood. It depended on what mood they were in. Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah. God’s promises are made ‘yes’ in Christ. We know God is faithful when we look at Jesus. Amen is our response to God’s faithfulness. We agree and say “let it be so”. It God who makes us confident in Christ. He holds us together in Jesus.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Phil 4:13).
We are anointed. He has set His seal of ownership on us. We are His. His Spirit in our heart is His seal on us (Eph 1:13). Evidence of this seal is the fruit of the Spirit in our lives (Gal 5:19-26). It is marked by the gifts of the Spirit active in our lives.
v21-22 – The anointing is a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. How does God’s Spirit in our hearts change our life? Are we proclaiming the good news (Luke 4:18-19).
