Going for Glory – The heart of the Gospel

1 Peter 3:18-22

God’s standard is perfection, but no-one is perfect. Sin seperates us from God. God hates sin because He loves us.

Jesus died in our place. The sacrifice was once for all. All our sin is paid for – past, present and future. In the divine exchange of the cross Jesus exchanges our sin for His righteousness. We come in dirty rags and He exchanges them for robes of righteousness. Jesus suffered death on the cross to reconcile us with God. It brings us to Him. The wrath of God is satisfied.

Jesus rose victorious over sin and death. If we share in His suffering we share in His resurrection. We are made alive in the Spirit.

Verses 19-22 are hard verses to understand and we have to be careful we do not make the Bible say what we want it to say. It is clear that Jesus won a great victory when He conquered death. He proclaimed that victory over all leaders, spirits, kingdoms and powers. They are in submission to Him (Matthew 28:18; Romans 8:35-39).
