Jehovah Jirah – the God of provision

Jehovah Jirah – the God of provision

Genesis 22:1-14

God sees all things and nothing takes Him by surprise. God sees and God provides. Abraham walked and stood in faith and he knew that God would provide – “WE are coming back”; “God Himself will provide” (vs 5 & 8). God saw beforehand what would happen and knew that Abraham would need an alternative sacrifice.  Nothing takes God by surprise. Before time began God knew what would happen in the Garden of Eden and He made provision for us – our sin did not take Him by surprise (2 Timothy 1:9).  The Lamb was prophesied in Genesis 22, personified in Isaiah 53, identified in John 1 and glorified in Revelation.

Where do you run to when your faith is being tested? What do you do when doubts creep in? Learn to run into the name of God (psalm 61:3; Proverbs  18:10). When we lose ourselves in God we find ourselves (Matthew 10:39; 16:25).

Will you trust God to be Jehovah Jirah?

  1. God in His provision gives us grace to conquer poverty in our lives – God wants us to understand the extent of His grace (2 Timothy 4:19).
  2. God in His provision gives us grace to conquer fear for tomorrow – Today’s mercies are for today’s troubles (Matthew 6:34). God’s mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-24).
