Loving the Lord in lockdown 3! – The Lord my fortress and my deliverer
2 Samuel 22:1-4, 18-20, 31-34; Psalm 18:1-2
David had finally won the victory over his enemies. As he looks back he can still praise God. Like David we can know the Lord as our strength and our rock. We can know the Lord as our fortress and our deliverer.
- The Lord my fortress. Even though David had been on the run and never safe he could still say the Lord is my fortress. God is our fortress castle. We can be totally safe in Him. We can run to Him for protection and security. Our lives can be hidden in Him. He is an impregnable fortress. We live in insecurity. The Lord my fortress offers us total security. He is not affected by the things of the world. Our lives are not in the hands of fate, they are in the hands of the Lord. Knowing this brings us freedom. We need to come within His fortress. Paul spoke of being ‘In Christ’ 164 times in the New Testament. We can be secure in God even when our lives are falling apart.
- The Lord my deliverer. David knew deliverance from his enemies. He did not deliver himself. It was the Lord’s doing. The Lord has not changed, He still delivers today. Jesus came to deliver (Luke 4:18) and the Holy Spirit continues His ministry today. Are you oppressed today? The Lord can be your deliverer today. Jesus has authority to deliver us. We can be set free.
