Pentecost Sunday 2022
Acts 1 & 2
Pentecost is 50 days after the Passover and was 10 days after Jesus had ascended. It is The Festival of Weeks, which is a harvest festival. Jerusalem would have been full of people from all over the known world.
What is the character and work of the Holy Spirit?
- The Breath of Life – The Holy Spirit is the one who breathes life into us. We become a Christian when the Holy Spirit breathes life into our soul. Breath is the difference between life and death. Are you feeling spiritually dead? We need the Holy Spirit to breath His life into us. We are commanded to be filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). We continually get worn down in life. We need the life giving impetus of the Holy Spirit continuously in our lives. The breath of the Holy Spirit cleanses and sanctified us.
- The Wind of God – We have all experienced the power of the wind. Like the wind, we can see God at work through the work of the Holy Spirit. People’s lives can be transformed by the work and presence of the Holy Spirit. We cannot control the Holy Spirit or put Him in a box. If we try to control Him we end up quenching and grieving Him and we miss out on what He wants to do in our lives. We need to keep in step with the Holy Spirit. Will you allow the wind of the Holy Spirit to blow through your life? Are your sails unfurled and ready to catch the wind of the Holy Spirit?
- The Fire of God (Luke 3:16) – Fire was a very important element in the Old Testament. The fire of the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin and our need for Jesus. Fire cleanses us and purifies us. We need the Holy Spirit fire today. We need the Holy Spirit to set us on fire for Jesus today.
