The Ebenezer Stone: Looking back – Looking forward
1 Samuel 7:1-13
The Ebenezer Stone:
- Reminds us of where we have come from. God turned the Israelites defeat into victory. The Ebenezer Stone is a stone of victory and celebration. We have a huge Ebenezer Stone in our lives – Jesus and the cross (Ephesians 2:1-5; 1 Peter 2:9-10). Church on the Rock/Rock Christian Centre did not have a promising start, but thus far the Lord has helped us.
- Reminds us of what God has done for us. God is working His purposes out even when things look like they are a disaster. God knows what He is doing even when we do not understand it. God turned the place of Israel’s greatest defeat (1 Samuel 4:1-2) into a place of victory.
- Reminds us of what God will do for us in the future. A memorial stone is for people to see and remember. “Thus far” shows us that there is more to come. He has helped us and will help us in the future.
