Sow the Word!

“You have been regenerated (born again), not from a mortal origin (seed, sperm), but from one that is immortal by the ever living and lasting Word of God.” (1 Peter 1:23)

• The Word of God is incorruptible seed.

• Your life will not change unless you plant the Word in your heart.

• God’s Word will have no impact or is powerless in your life until you plant it in the soil of your heart.

The parable of the Sower is one of the most popular parables that Jesus told to show the importance of God’s Word. (Mark 4) He taught that the seed is the Word of God and that the ground it is sown into is your heart. A seed has to be planted in the ground or soil to bear fruit, and unless the seed is planted in your heart it will not begin to germinate, will not become productive, neither will it be able to bear fruit. The only thing that brings forth fruit in the life of a believer is the Word of God mixed with faith. Many believers are like the Israelites of old of whom it was said, “It did them no good because they didn't believe what God told them or they did not mix the Word with faith.” (Heb 4:2)

The seed of the Word never fails to germinate. It is incorruptible. It is always perfect seed. It never rots or is less than superb quality. If there is a problem of germination or growth, the problem is not with the seed, it is with the ground or the heart into which the seed has been planted. Many reverence the Bible. They leave it on table tops, under pillows or in their handbags, but it is of no use unless you take the Word and plant it in your heart. It has to be planted in your heart and germinate before it can release Its supernatural power.

There is no way that you can keep from having your life changed if you will consistently put God’s Word into your life, mediate on it and let it have its impact on you. Joshua 1:8 tells us to “Study the Word of God continually. Meditate on it day and night so you may be sure to obey all that is written in it. Only then will you succeed.

God’s Word is not going to impact your life until it gets on the inside of you. His Word is powerless in your life until it is planted in your heart. You may hear the Word, you may know about the Word but until it is received in your heart it will have no effect. What kind of ground is your heart at the moment? Do you have a stony, hard, thorny or fertile heart? Are you receiving the Words that the Lord is speaking to you through His Word today?

Today make it a priority to sow His Word into the fertile soil of your heart and see what will happen!

Prayer Points:

• Heavenly Father, thank You for opening my eyes to the importance of not just knowing the Word but to receiving it into my heart.

• Help me to have a fertile and soft heart to Your Word.

• Help me to be diligent in sowing the Word in my life.

In Jesus’ Name

Amen
