A church for all nations

Pentecost: What does this mean?

Pentecost: What does this mean?

Acts 2:1-13

What does this mean (vs 12)? Pentecost is a day we remember as the day that the Holy Spirit came down. There are key parts in the Gospel – Jesus birth,  His death, resurrection and ascension. Pentecost is also a key part of the Gospel. The receiving of the Holy Spirit was a promise of Jesus and Pentecost was the day that that promise was fulfilled. It was the beginning of the church.

Why did they have to “wait here”? The disciples had to wait for the Holy Spirit to give them the words to speak to those in Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit is Christ in our lives and gives us unity as believers wherever we come from. The Holy Spirit empowers us to share our faith. We cannot do it without Him. Luke 24:29 – How many of us want to be  clothed with power from on high?

What does this mean to us today? The Holy Spirit is with us and will always be with us. If God says He will do something He will do it. It took 830 years for Joel 2:28-32 to be fulfilled. God can use us in any situation we find ourselves in. The Holy Spirit can and does give us all we need.

Are you filled with the Holy Spirit? Scripture tells us to continue to be being filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18)? Do people hear you declaring the wonders of God?

2 Chronicles 14:2-7 – Asa did what is right in the eyes of God. There is emphasis on “they built and then prosper”. Don’t fall for a copy of God or second best. We are entering an age where what we see is potentially fake. Things made up are portrayed as real. Scripture needs to be our source of authority. We are called to seek His kingdom first.

What will you do (Act 2:37)? Are you seeking the Lord? Are you going to allow the Holy Spirit to empower you?
