Evidence of God

Evidence of God

Genesis 32:6-12, 22-32

Jacob wrestles with the same tenacity as he wrestled with his brother all their lives, even in the womb. Jacob obtained the blessing of the firstborn even though it wasn’t his.

There are 193 countries in the world. Israel was added 11th May 1945. We hear constantly about Israel in the news today. The question being asked is “What must be done about Israel?” No-one is asking where the name Israel comes from. God gave Jacob the name of Israel. The Jewish people are descended from him and the name Israel is an acknowledgement that God exists.

God led Jacob and his family into Egypt. 430 years later God brought them out as a nation and set up the Jewish calendar. The Jewish calendar began that month. This calendar is still in use today and is a testimony to the existence of God. Passover, that happens every year is God’s Passover and it is evidence of God because He prescribed how and when it should be celebrated.

A month after they left Egypt over 2 million people heard the voice of God speaking out the Ten Commandments. Everyone heard it. After speaking them, God wrote the Commandments down on stone tablets. The Ten Commandments that are written in our Bibles today came directly from God. Our laws are based on these Commandments and therefore come from and are evidence of God. The fourth Commandment is “Remember the Sabbath Day”. The Sabbath is still observed today. The observing of the Sabbath speaks of the existence of God and testifies to God creating everything in six days (Exodus 31:12-17).

40 years after God led Israel out of Egypt He parted the waters of the Jordan and led the people over onto the Left Bank. In Joshua 5:2-14 God commanded and ordained circumcision. Circumcision is a testimony of the existence of God. Circumcision is a testimony that God had given the land to the nation of Israel.

Today, when someone asks us “Why do you have this hope in you?”, we who follow Jesus, are born again and are full of the Holy Spirit are testimony to the existence of God. We are proof that there is a God. We are proof that Jesus died, rose again and is seated at the right hand of God interceding for us. Jesus said “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12), but He also said “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). We are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. Do not be afraid to share your testimony, let the Holy Spirit of God move in you. God at work in us and in our lives is proof of the existence of God. We need to be prepared to say to people that God is, alive and He is alive in us.
