Feast and famine
Psalm 36:7-8; 23:5; Genesis 3:1-6; Luke 15:11-32
The Bible is full of God promising to give us a feast. How do we get from a place of feasting to famine? Genesis 3:1-6 was the beginning of man moving from feast to famine. Eve took her eyes of everything around her that was good and focused on what she was forbidden. We live in a world that tells us if only we had “this” we would be happy. How often do we take our mind of what God has given and believe He is withholding something from us? How often do we buy into the lie of the enemy?
In Luke 15: 11-32 there are two brothers living a life of plenty. The prodigal son brought into the lie that he needed more and ended up in famine. The older brother was about to miss out on the feast. The older brother had been living with his father. All that the father has was his, but he believed he had never had anything. Do we buy into the lie that God gives to others and never gives us anything? God says, “Everything I have is yours and I am always with you. If you feel there is a lack, it is because you haven’t asked”.
The prodigal son did four things:
- He recognised where he was – The prodigal son came to his senses and recognised where he was and that he needed to go back to his father. We need to recognise the state we are in.
- He went back – The prodigal son went back to his father.
- He confessed his sin and asked for help
- He received – He did not push the father away. He received what the father gave him. Are you willing to receive the feast from the Father.
The feast is whatever we are feeding upon. Are we feeding on God or from the lie that we are in famine? Are we spending time with God? Are you reading His word? Are we praying? Are we allowing God to give us a feast?
