A church for all nations sharing God's love and truth to all people through the life transforming message of Jesus

One thing I ask, one thing I seek

One thing I ask, one thing I seek

Psalm 27:1-14

“One thing I ask, one thing I seek” (Vs 4). What is the one thing you would ask of God? What is the one thing you would seek of Him?

David wrote Psalm 27 in a time of crisis. He was seeking the Lord in this Psalm. At moments like this David saw that everything else could be stripped away, but God remained permanent and faithful. He sought the presence of God, an unshakable refuge in the storms of life.

In reality there is only God who is constant. We need to seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness. We need to stand firm in the Lord in a world were we are taught to seek refuge in worldly things (1 Peter 5:6-11). Worldly things will let us down.

Practical steps when we face crises:

  1. Prayer and not panic – make your first response prayer.
  2. Develop daily practices that anchor you in God’s presence – be intentional to spend time with God
  3. Remember that circumstances change – God’s character remains constant
  4. Create “Sanctuary moments”/”Quite times” – create time with God

Throughout this Psalm David is reminding himself that his assurance is in God. We do not wait and do nothing, we wait in assurance of who God is and assurance in Him.
