A church for all nations sharing God's love and truth to all people through the life transforming message of Jesus

The fire never falls on an empty altar

The fire never falls on an empty altar

Romans 12:1

Does all this work – praising and worshipping God? Does Jesus work in our lives? We are not called to be religious, but to have a relationship with God. Its not about religion, but about knowing God Himself. We live in a broken world, but Jesus came to set the captives free.

What is proper worship? In worship we need to offer something back to God. We need to give back to God everything we are. God is after the ‘all’ of us, every part of our lives.

  1. The book of Leviticus sets out the standards of what God expects of us. The Israelites had to keep the fire burning before God. When the first church began in the upper room at Pentecost a fire came down upon each of the disciples. We need the fire of God’s presence to come down and rest upon our lives. The Holy Spirit touched the lives of the disciples and they needed to keep the fire burning by walking closely with God in relationship with Him. Does your heart still burn within you as it did when you first believed? Has your heart burned within you like it did in the disciples on the road to Emmaus? The five foolish virgins left replenishing the oil. We are called to not let the oil run out. If there is no altar then there is no fire! People want truth and something to replace the emptiness within them.
  2. Elijah on Mount Carmel (1 King’s 18) rebuilt the altar and called down fire upon it. We need to rebuild the altar to God in our lives. God had to deal with the sin in our lives and Jesus died so that we can be forgiven. We sometimes think we don’t need to give God anything and we expect everything from Him. We need to start from the beginning again and build an altar to God in our lives. Jesus is the perfect offering and we need to give everything back to Him. Our God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:28-29). Once the fire came down at Carmel the three year drought ended. As a society we need to rebuild an altar to God. The better world only comes when Jesus is recognised as Lord.

Do you have an empty altar or a sacrifice on the altar?
