A church for all nations sharing God's love and truth to all people through the life transforming message of Jesus

What is Jesus doing today?

What is Jesus doing today?

Acts 1:1-11 (NLT)

Today Jesus is:

  1. Reigning and ruling (Ephesians 1:20-22 NLT) – Some people have some authority to one extent or other. Where does their authority come from? In John 19:11 Jesus said He had ALL authority from His Father. In Ephesians 1:20-22 we are told the God seated Jesus at His right hand. In the Old Testament God gave instructions on how worship should take place and there were no chairs in the tabernacle because the priests’ work was never finished. But Jesus is seated because His work “is finished” (John 19:30).
  2. Building His church (Matthew 16:13-18 NLT) – Jesus said He WILL build His church. Jesus spoke to His disciples about His mission to draw people into relationship with Him. He is still doing this in the world today. The church is not our responsibility. Jesus wants to use us to build HIS church. In Revelation 1 John saw Jesus walking amongst the lampstands. The lampstands represent the churches. Jesus walks amongst us today.
  3. Receiving our praise (Luke 22:50-52 NLT) – Jesus led His followers to Bethany and His disciples worshipped Him. In Psalm 22 we read that God inhabitants the praises of His people. Our worship blesses God’s heart.
  4. Empowering His people (Matthew 28:19-20) – Jesus says to GO and that He will be WITH us when we go. He goes with us by His Spirit. The one who sent His Spirit to His disciples at Pentecost sends His Spirit to us today. We need to walk according to the Spirit. We need to constantly ask for and receive His Spirit.
  5. Praying for His people (Act 7:54-60 NLT) – Jesus prays for us before the Father. He is described as a mediator. A mediator represents one party to another. There is a huge gap between us and God. Only Jesus can breach the gap (1 Timothy 2:5). In Acts 6 Stephen saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God. This was a court in heaven. Stephen saw Jesus standing and speaking in our defence.
  6. Preparing a place (John 14:1-7 NLT) – Jesus is preparing heaven for us. When His disciples said they did not know how to get to heaven Jesus instructed them to follow Him. In Revelation 21 John saw a new heaven and earth that were not separated from each other.
  7. Waiting for the word (2 Peter 3:14 NLT) – Jesus said He was coming soon. How long is soon? 2 Peter 3 tells us that with the Lord a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day. Who are we expecting? Jesus will be the same when He returns. He will still be the same exact representation of God.

We can and should be motivated by all this. We should have absolute confidence in Jesus and what He is doing today. We should be making every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with Jesus today (2 Peter 3:14).
