Ordinary people, extraordinary God – Samuel: God’s amazing gift to rescue His people
1 Samuel 1:20, 24-28
The Bible is the greatest book in history. Have you read it? The Bible is inspired by God and it is His story. Every story has a hero and the Bible’s hero is God Himself.
Samuel is part of Gods great story. The story of Samuel is a great example of God miraculously His anointed and appointed leader to bring His people back to God and to save and rescue His people. Samuel was God’s gift to the people of Israel at that time.
Samuel was born at a desperate time for the nation of Israel. Israel was living in the promised land, but after Joshua died they neither knew the Lord nor what He had done for them (Judges 2:10-19). By the time Samuel was born Israel was at rock bottom because it had turned away from God. Is there a comparison with our nation and our world today?
The gift of Samuel shows God’s amazing mercy and grace. In Samuel God provided a saviour and rescuer for the people of Israel. Samuel eventually led the nation back to God and established the kingship of Israel.
God has provided the rescue package for us in the gift of Jesus (John 3:16). Whoever believes in Jesus will not perish but will have eternal life. We were enemies of God, but He has rescued us through His Son. God offers us His amazing mercy and grace and love. Jesus has rescued us from God’s wrath and judgement. We have the good news of Jesus and He commands us to share this good news. Are you telling your friends and family about Jesus?
