Weakness is the way

2 Corinthians 12:7-10, 1 Kings 18

Will spoke about his speach impediment. He has tried to hide it. He has tried to swap what he is about to say. He has tried to cope with the weakness, as he sees it, in many ways. He has struggled with God over this by asking “How can you allow this?” God did not take it away, instead he made Will a preacher. God did not let go of Will and His calling him to preach.

Will’s faith and perspective needed to change. If we allow weakness to control our faith then the weakness has become our God. Our faith needs to be redirected towards God. Our perspective needs to be redefined. Our weakness is not in the way, it is the way. God can use our weakness.

God did not call Will because he could speak,  but because he couldn’t speak. Gid doesn’t want to remove our weakness, He wants us to live with the weakness we have. We need to embrace our weakness and surrender it to God.

We are all weak and we need to stop believing our weakness is in the way.

1. Weakness is the way to power (2 Corinthians 12:7-10) – Paul begged God to take away his ‘thorn’. Weakness and sin are not the same thing. Weakness is comforted, sin is punished. Paul’s thorn was not a sin he had, it was a weakness in him. In answer, God allowed Paul to keep his Weakness so that he could experience His power at work. God’s grace is ALL that we need. His power works best in our Weakness. God wants to bless others through our weaknesses. Paul accepted his weakness and allowed God to work through it. Thorns are not an obstacle, they are way to the throne room. We need to allow our weaknesses to push us forward and towards God.
2. Weakness is the way to victory – The greatest thing God has ever done was to send His Son to save us through Jesus’ weakness. Jesus came as a baby. Jesus did saved us by being crucified in our place naked on a tree. Jesus died on the cross and was buried in a tomb that wasn’t even His. God knew that Jesus weakness lead to victory. Jesus carried the scars of His weakness in the wounds on His hands and feet and in His side side. God won His greatest victory through Jesus’ weakness on the cross.
3. Weakness is the way to glory (1 King’s 18) – Elijah put himself in a position of weakness by saturating the alter with water. God knew that weakness was the way to glory. His glory was magnified by setting fire to the wet wood. There was no doubt that God deserved the glory. When the fire fell it consumed everything and the people had to confess that “The Lord is God”. Elijah had to step out in faith and allow himself to look stupid because he knew that nothing is impossible to God. If you desire the fire then weakness is the way.
