Peter and John at the beautiful gate

Peter and John at the beautiful gate

Acts 3:1-10

The Gospel is divine power to change lives. The Gospel is the good news of God. It is the only Gospel. This story shows:

  1. The continuation of the Apostles – Peter and John were going to the temple as usual. Jews went to pray three times a day. They still saw themselves as Jews, but there was a change in their thinking. They went to pray and not to offer sacrifice, but to honour the Lamb of God, Jesus. It is likely they were planning to meet new Christians in the temple to pray with them (Acts 2:46).
  2. The condition of this beggar
    • He was lame – He was carried to the gate of the temple every day. He had no doctors or physios to help him. He was barred from entering the temple because of his deformity. In the same way, we are kept out of heaven, the presence of God, by our sin.
    • He was looking – He was looking for help in his condition.
    • He was lacking – He had no money, no food or help. The people going into the temple were lacking a relationship with the God they were trying to get close to. We are all dead in our sins. The rituals of religion cannot connect us to God. God is not interested in our rituals or religion. Man made religion is empty, we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit. We need to be changed from the inside.
    • He was loved – He had people who cared for him and carried him to the temple daily. Circumstances had put him in the position he was in. Gid can pick us up and take our mess and turn it into a miracle. There is always hope in Jesus. We are loved by God (Romans 5:8, Ephesians 2:4).
  3. The conversation that took place – Peter and John gave what they had. They had delighted authority. We have the same authority. The Lord still heals today, but it is His decision because it is Him that does the healing.
  4. The conversion – He was healed and his life was changed because of the power of Jesus’ name. There is still one who’s name is above every name (Philippians 2:9). Once you have been told the Gospel of God there is no excuse for ignorance. Today is the day of salvation.
