The Gospel of Luke – Jesus is for everyone: What are you building your life on?
Luke 6:43-49
In this parable Jesus is speaking very strong words – “Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say?” Are you doing what Jesus says? Are you His disciple? Jesus did not have a problem with sinners, but He did have a problem with people who proclaimed Him Lord and did not do as He said.
The two builders are almost the same. They are both building a house. They have both heard Jesus and His teaching. The difference is one heard His words and put them into practice and the other heard His words and didn’t put them into practice. It matters how you live and what you do with Jesus’ teaching. Jesus calls us to a radical life of self denial. The wise builder heard Jesus words and laid the foundations of his life and build upon the Rock of Jesus. Jesus wants us to build our lives on the solid rock of Jesus. What foundation are you building upon? Are you building on sand or solid rock? Are you digging deep into the word of God? What are we chasing after in life – education, money, sport, our own understanding or the Word of God? Are we doing it our way or Jesus’ way?
The torrents that come in the parable don’t just represent the challenges of life, but they represent the end times and God’s final judgement. We will all face God’s judgement. None of us are exempt. Will your house remain standing strong? It matters eternally what you build your life upon and how you live your life.
