The extravagant love of God your Father
Psalm 139:1-6; 1John 4:16, 3:1-2; Matthew 7:9-11; Romans 8:31-32; Luke 15:7; John 1:12-13
How many of us still write letters? Imagine you have received a letter that was written before you were born from someone who knows all about you and loves you. The Bible is this letter. It is a love letter from God to us.
- You are known – Completely and lovingly (Psalm 139:1-6) – God wants us to know that He knows us and He knows everything we are going through. God’s heart knows His children. He knows us better than we know ourselves. We are not an accident. God knows every hair on our heads. He knit us together in our mother’s womb.
- You Are Loved – Extravagantly and Eternally (1 John 4:16; 1 John 3:1-2) – God’s love for us is an intimate love. God loves us as His children. God lavishly His love upon us beyond what we expect. He rejoice over us with singing. He will never stop doing good to us.
- You Are Fathered – Perfectly and Completely (Matthew 7:9-11) – What does the word “father” means to you? God has only goodness for us. He is the Father that we can depend on. He carries us close to His heart. He is our greatest encouragement.
- You Are Reconciled – Through Jesus Christ (Romans 8:31-32) – Our relationship with God is broken by our sin, but God has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus. He no longer counts our sin against us. Jesus is the father heart of God in action. The cross is the ultimate expression of God’s love for us.
- You Are Invited – Come Home (Luke 15:7; John 1:12-13) – We are all invited by God to come home to Him. God runs to meet us to embrace us and to welcome us home. We cannot earn our salvation, but we can choose to receive it. Gid gave everything He had to bring us home to Him.
