Worshipful Singing
Psalm 33:1; Zephaniah 3:17; 2 Chronicles 20:15-24; Acts 16
Worshipful singing is essential for entering and experiencing the presence and power of God.
Genesis 22 is the first mention of worship in scripture. Abraham’ love for God and faith was tested and he submitted to God’s will. There was no singing, but it describes Abraham obeying God. Worship has everything you do with obeying and surrendering to God.
Singing is used 147 times in Scripture. Singing is loud, happy, but also sad. We are encouraged to shout to the Lord. Singing carries our prayers to God. We see singing in many ways in Scripture. Whatever the season we have a song to sing. Our singing is wonderful to God’s ears.
- God loves to sing (Zephaniah 3:17) – God is so delighted in us that He sings songs of love over us. None of creation made God sing. We alone makes Him sing. He continuously and constantly dings over us.
- God loves it when we sing – God designed the tabernacle to lead us into His presence. The presence of God is our purpose. We are called to be houses of God for Him to live in us. David brought singing into his tabernacle. In Revelation we see a glimpse of constant singing in the presence of God. David instituted a sacrifice of praise rather than an animal sacrifice. Worshipful singing is praying to a melody. Praying and singing go hand in hand. James foretold the rebuilding of David’s tabernacle in Act 15:16. God’s heart registers our worshipful singing and opens to us.
- Satan hates it when we sing (2 Chronicles 20:15-24; Acts 16) – Worshipful singing is a weapon against the enemy. Singing is spiritual warfare. We can sing in every condition. Worshipful singing must always involve thanks and praise to the Lord. When we struggle to sing we need to look at the cross.
