Preparing for Christmas
Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 9-14; Matthew 1:22-23
We have to face the fact that Christmas these days is no longer a Christian festival for most people. Christmas has been taken over by secular things. The true Christmas story is all about the birth of Jesus. We need to redeem Christmas by:
- Celebrating the Incarnation – Incarnation is Immanuel, God with us. This means having God with us in all that we do – in our Christmas shopping, at our works Christmas party, etc. It also means having God with us in January and throughout the rest of next year. Immanuel is God with us in every situation we are going through.
- Experiencing the Incarnation – We can experience the Incarnation through the presence of the Holy Spirit living in us. Jesus came to be incarnated into our lives by the Holy Spirit. Jesus said you must be born again by the Holy Spirit (John 3:1-21). The Holy Spirit is Jesus living in us. Have you been born again?
- Be the Incarnation – We are called to be Christmas to others, to be Jesus to those around us. We are called to incarnate Jesus to others. We are called to be salt and light to the world. We are Jesus’ ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20). We can only incarnate Jesus to others if we are where they are. People will see Jesus in us by the way we behave towards them.
