The Gospel of Luke: Jesus is for everyone  – Judgement is coming; be ready, watch and pray

Luke 21:20-36

1. Judgement on Jerusalem (vs20-24) – When we reject Jesus judgement is guaranteed to follow. If we reject Jesus today God’s judgement is guaranteed. It is vitally important to get right with God. The good news is that Jesus came and died on the cross for our sins. If we have not repented of our sins then we should be afraid of Jesus’ return. Jesus core message was “repent for the kingdom of God is near”. Today is the day of salvation, not tomorrow; tomorrow may be too late. If we have repented of our sins we are Children of God and citizens of the Kingdom of God.
2. Jesus is coming in power and glory (vs25-28) – Jesus will return. Everything we know will be in turmoil, but we should not be afraid, our kingdom is not of this world. Jesus’ return is great for Christians (vs28). We should stand, watch and welcome our coming King.
3. Jesus’ coming is great news for Christians (vs28-36) – When Jesus returns our suffering is coming to an end, Jesus is coming to redeem us. When we see signs of Jesus’ return we should not have fear, we should rejoice because our redemption is near.
   1. It matters how we live (vs34-35) – Do not be weighed down with worldly stresses.
   2. Watch and pray (vs36) – Do not miss out on all that Jesus has achieved for you. The question is not ‘when will Jesus return?’, but ‘are you ready?’
