The little foxes that destroy our vineyards
Song of Solomon 2:15
What could get in the way of us being fruitful?
Foxes are characterised as very cunning and crafty. Three things (little foxes) that cause us to be unfruitful are:
- Offence (Luke 17:1-5) – Offence will come our way. How do we handle it?
- Anger (Ephesians 4:26-27) – It is not bad to be angry, but we need to handle it properly?
- Bitterness (Hebrews 12:14-15) – Bitterness causes defilement within us. Bitterness is like drinking poison ourselves and expecting it to harm our enemy. Bitterness attracts bitter people. Are you bitter because of what someone has done to you? Are you locked in a prison of bitterness? Why are you bitter about today? The story of Absalom, Amnon, Tamar and Ahithophel in 2 Samuel 13-17 is an example of how bitterness can destroy relationships. Joseph had every right to be bitter towards his brothers, but he chose to speak kindly to them (Genesis 50:19-21).
