The Gospel of Luke: Jesus is for everyone – Growing out in evangelism and mission

Luke 9:1-6

The disciples had witnessed Jesus in action. Now Jesus was saying to them, ” Now it’s your turn”. They must have been scared and thinking, “we didn’t sign up for this; we can’t do this”. Jesus calls all of us to put our faith into action. When we put our faith into action the fruit will come.

  1. We are chosen, called, equipped and sent by Jesus – He chose the disciples by name. God has chosen you. He knows all about you and still chooses you (1 Peter 2:9). He chose you for a purpose. We are called to declare the praises of God. The truth that we are chosen should change our lives. Jesus calls ALL Christians to go out and make disciples of ALL people. Jesus gave the disciples and then the 72 His power and authority to go out and do His work. Jesus will equip us to do His work.
  2. We are given a message to proclaim – we are not just called to heal the sick or cast out demons; we are called to proclaim a message, the good news of Jesus. Signs and wonders should accompany the preaching of the Gospel. We are commissioned to preach the Kingdom of God; a kingdom where God reigns supreme; a kingdom where Jesus is king. What stops us from preaching the Gospel? It doesn’t matter if we don’t know very much. We need to just share Jesus. We all have an experience of Jesus we can share. There is power in testimony.
  3. We are called to depend on God – Jesus calls us to trust God to meet our need.
